JA Culican2Hey guys!

It’s March! And you know what that means… A new #AuthorSpotlight!

This month’s feature is the super incredible, USA Today Bestselling author, JA Culican!

ELLE: Who’s your favorite Fantasy/PNR/Dystopian, etc. heroine? Why do you love her so much?

JA: I am going to go MG/YA with this and say Hermione Granger. She was this book nerd that I could relate too. People were scared of her knowledge and I think that is a trait we should see more of. And of course, she had some great one liners 

E: What does your typical writing day/schedule look like?

JA: Crazy. I basically work 18 hour days between my day job, writing and my four kids. I write a solid 2 hours each day with zero interruptions. Everything gets turned off and I just stare at my WIP.

E: If you could have ONE magical power… what would you choose, and why?

JA: To freeze time. I feel like I miss out on so much because there just isn’t enough time in the day.

E: I hear ya on that one! What is your strangest habit? (Doesn’t have to be writing related)

JA: So, this drives my husband crazy, but I have to get out of bed on the right side in the morning. No idea why, it’s in my head that if I get out on the left side I will have a bad day.

E: How many words-per-book (and words-per-day) do you aim to write? How long does it usually take you to complete a novel of that length?

JA: My daily goal is 2k. I can usually write a novel in 4-6 weeks.

E: What’s your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?

JA: I am going to go back to the Harry Potter reference from earlier. I feel as the movies went on they got better.

E: I totally agree! What’s the most effective marketing strategy you’ve tried? And how did you go about implementing it?

JA: Definitely running facebook and amazon ads. I spent a crazy amount of hours watching youtube videos and testing targets etc.

E: You may choose 3 fictional characters to be on your team in the zombie apocalypse… Who are they?

JA: So, another fun fact is I am obsessed with comic books and superheroes. So, I would say…Wonder woman, Flash and Superman

E: That’s awesome! I know I LOVED the Wonder Woman movie! What’s the best writing tip you’ve received, or would give to a fellow author?

JA: Don’t worry about what other authors are doing and just worry about being the best you.

E: In my series, The Essential Elements, the characters have the ability to control 1 of the 4 Classical Elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind).
If you could control ONE… which would you choose, and why?

JA: Fire for sure. I love dragons. And when I think of fire the first thing I think of is dragons.

the crown's accordE: Please tell us a bit about your latest release!

JA: I just released book 4 in the Keeper of Dragons series. Book 4, The Crowns’ Accord is the last book in the series and it is bittersweet for me. Keeper of Dragons was my first series I published and it blew my expectations out of the water for it. I never expected so many people to love it and enjoy it as much as myself.

Thank you SO much JA for the awesome interview!
