On this beautiful day in July, we welcome author Jamie Summer!
This interview has been a long time coming lol Jamie and I had a number of technical issues holding us back, but we’re finally good to go! Enjoy 🙂
Elle: If you could be any fantastical being, which would you choose, and why?
Jamie: I think I’d like to be a fairy. The good kind, obviously. Flying, doing good, that would be what I’d like to do.
E: Aww, I love the idea of doing good! What does your typical writing day/schedule look like?
J: I usually write during my commute to work. I am one of the lucky people that types fast, so I can get a good chunk done that way. And it’s the right thing to get my mind to wake up in the morning.
E: Is there anything you simply must have in order to write?
J: Music. I cannot write without music. Not the blaring kind, but the low background music that keeps my mind flowing.
E: What is your strangest habit?
J: Oh gosh, if only I knew. Twirling strands of my hair all of the time maybe?
E: Are you a Planner or a Pantser?
J: Pantser all the way. I write without an actual idea most of the time. Which results in lots of editing, but I can’t do it any other way. It’s what works best for me.
E: What’s your favorite book>to>movie adaptation?
J: Hunger Games and Harry Potter
E: Best advice for aspiring writers?
J: Research. Ask fellow authors for recommendation on all the important aspects for publishing, eg editing, cover work. It’s so important. I learned that early on.
E: I definitely agree. Talking with fellow authors is some of the best advice! What are your favorite themes to write about?
J: Magic. That’s one big thing for me. I love the freedom it gives you to do and write what you want.
E: It’s the zombie apocalypse! You may choose 3 fictional characters to be on your team. Who are they?
J: The Winchesters and Oliver Queen.
E: In my series, The Essential Elements, the characters have the ability to control 1 of the 4 Classical Elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind). If you could control one, which would you choose, and why?
J: Water, hands down. I’m crazy about water in all ways, which definitely shows in my debut book Dalysian Hope (it also deals with elemental magic funnily enough.)
E: That is so awesome! I’ll definitely have to check it out! In just ONE sentence, please tell us about your latest release!
J: Broken Jar of Memories is a story about two sisters who are trying to piece together their history with the help of a memory jar after having suffered a terrible tragedy.
A huge thank you to Jamie for doing the interview, despite all of our previous setbacks lol
